The Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi Institute — SMNDI — exists for one reason: to carry forward the life's work of H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, who dedicated herself to awakening the highest potential within every human being. Named in her honour, this institute is a living expression of her vision — a place where seekers of all backgrounds, faiths, and walks of life are welcomed with open arms.

Our purpose is threefold. First, to make the gift of Sahaja Yoga meditation freely available to all — as Shri Mataji always insisted, this knowledge can never be sold. Second, to offer structured programs in personality development that help individuals grow in character, emotional balance, clarity, and inner strength. Third, to preserve and share the timeless teachings of Shri Mataji so that future generations may benefit from her wisdom just as we have.

The Kundalini

The Founder

The origin of
Sahaja Yoga

Sahaja Yoga was founded in 1970 by Nirmala Srivastava — known by millions as H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. Born on March 21, 1923 in Chhindwara, India, her very name means "immaculate."

Shri Mataji dedicated her entire life to teaching people of all nationalities, races, and faiths how to use Sahaja Yoga to better their lives — always freely, without charge. She traveled tirelessly across six continents into her eighties, establishing meditation centers in over 130 countries.

Her legacy lives on through every practitioner who shares this gift — as she always intended — free of charge.
